Living Green at the
Sonoma County Fair

The Sonoma County Fairgrounds is committed to environmental excellence and supports efforts to make the Sonoma County Fair more sustainable. Thanks to a partnership with North Bay Corporation and the Conservation Corps of the North Bay, an increased number of recycling bins will be placed throughout the fair for bottles and cans. Recycling bins will be located next to trashcans to make recycling convenient for fairgoers. Vendors, exhibitors, and staff also have access to a comprehensive recycling program for cardboard, paper, bottles, and cans.

In addition to recycling, the Sonoma County Fairgrounds has implemented the following green standards:
  • Generates 682,192 watts of solar energy annually from panels located on the racetrack grandstand, the Lyttle Cow Palace, and three fairgrounds maintenance buildings.
  • Recycles bottles, cans, and paper products.
  • Promotes carpooling and the use of shuttles and public transportation to reduce the carbon footprint.
  • Donate over a ton of food to a local food bank.
  • Minimize printing by maximizing the use of electronic communication.
  • Inform vendors and exhibitors of greening efforts.
  • Support recycling collection events.
  • Recycles hundreds of tons of green waste annually.
  • Storm water collection project.
  • 2009 and 2010 energy retrofit project

Please feel free to contact the recycling coordinator at 484-0441 with any comments or questions.

We appreciate your patronage and comments!

Thank you so much for the work you’ve done to make this year’s fair a great time. We had fun all day including horseracing, Ibleto’s (pasta), Dixieland parade, animals, chickens, baby goats, cows, Clo’s ice cream, and a big dill pickle.

Thank you! The Derby Dog Dash was the most fun I’ve had since the Harvest Fair last year. Splash Dogs was also great, and the AcroCats were a class act.

We are new to the community so this is our first time at the fair. I can honestly say this is the best fair we've been to, and we've been to fairs from San Diego to Wisconsin!

We spent four annual summer vacations in Sonoma County during those years, visiting the fair each time, and remember those trips with much fondness. We would still be making the annual trek if we still lived in Las Vegas, NV, but we have since moved to Florida.
Thanks!
