World Pillow Fighting Championships
What is the World Pillow Fighting Championships??
Originating in Kenwood, CA in 1966, The Kenwood Pillow Fights, also known as the World Pillow Fighting Championships, was an annual event held during the Fourth of July celebration from 1966 to 2006 in Kenwood, CA. It originated as a fundraiser for the Kenwood Firemen's Association and became a popular tradition, drawing large crowds and even international competitors. Every year men and women would straddle the 'Slippery When Wet' pole and try to hang on for a title. The audience always had a great time watching contestants slowly slither their way along the pole to the starting position while trying to keep their balance. Doing so, with a wet pillow in one hand and nothing but air in the other. They battle it out in 1 on 1 bouts down to the final 2, where only one can be named the World Pillow Fighting Champion!
The Sonoma County Fairgrounds is so excited to have the opportunity to bring this annual event back to life in partnership with the Kenwood Fireman’s Association and give Sonoma County a 4th of July Celebration to look forward to for many years to come. We hope to see you there!
